All orders for scans and radiology exams must now be entered into the hospital's electronic medical record system (EPIC). You can indicate if the scan should be billed to a research account by selecting "Research" as the class, or you can indicate that the scan is standard-of-care and should be billed to insurance by selecting "Normal" as the class. The scan appointment should be linked to the appropriate research study during the scheduling process. There are rare instances in which an order may not be necessary; for example, if you are doing basic science research (as opposed to a clinical trial). You should consult with the HIRO about this issue.
