FAQ: How can I get anonymized copies of scans for a teaching file, expert witness testimony, or other educational or clinical purposes?

If you require anonymized copies of scans for your standard clinical duties, the HIRO can help. "Standard clinical duties" includes scans that will be used to build teaching files, scans that will be used during expert witness testimony, images that will be used in Grand Rounds presentations or at medical conferences (like the AIRP conference), and any other reason that anonymized scans may be required that does not include human subject research. The HIRO generally provides copies of scans for these purposes free of charge. However, you will still need to create a HIRO account (if you do not already have one).

To obtain anonymized copies of scans for these purposes, please contact the HIRO directly (hirohelp [at] bsd.uchicago.edu). Your HIRO account will be given the authority to request images for clinical purposes, and you will be contacted with instructions on how to do so.
