Tutorial: Creating your HIRO account

Creating your HIRO account is simple and straightforward. Any person (Principal Investigator or otherwise) who would like to utilize any of the HIRO's services (like requesting anonymized images, for example) must create an account. To create an account, please follow the simple steps below.

Please keep in mind that this is a personal account that belongs to you. Please do not attempt to create a "shared" account or an account for your research study. You will have the opportunity to register your research studies once you create your account.

(1) Click the Create New Account link

Click the Create New Account link on the left side of any page on the HIRO website.

(2) Fill out the account creation form

Fill out the account creation form in its entirety and review the disclaimer at the bottom of the form. If you have questions about any of the items on the form, please feel free to contact the HIRO at hirohelp [at] bsd [dot] uchicago [dot] edu.

(3) Review and agree to the disclaimer

Once you have finished filling out the form and you have reviewed the disclaimer, click the I Agree button. This will submit your request for a new account.

(4) Open your new account email message and create a password

Shortly after you submit the form, you will receive an automated email message. This email will contain instructions for logging in for the first time. Please read this message completely and perform the indicated steps to log in for the first time and set up a password.

(5) Log in for the first time

Once you log in, you'll notice a new box on the left side of the page. This box will contain any actions and reports that you are able to access with your account.

After you create your account, members of the HIRO's staff will review the account details you provided in order to validate it. We attempt to validate accounts as quickly as possible; the process is generally completed within 48 hours. Please note that while your account is being validated you will not be able to use any HIRO services (like submit image data requests), but you may still register IRB protocols and assign users to them (if desired). The protocols will not be considered active, however, until your account has been validated.
